Bertoli Mitchell advises AMI in the sale of its shares in three journals to Wiley

(February 2024)

Applied Microbiology International has sold its minority shares in three journals: Environmental Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology Reports and Microbial Biotechnology to John Wiley & Sons.

The journals were launched as a joint venture between Society for Applied Microbiology (SfAM), as was, and Blackwell Publishing between 1998 and 2008, with Professor Ken Timmis serving as Founding Editor on all three titles. Since then both organisations have seen many changes with Blackwells merging with and subsequently being subsumed by Wiley and SfAM relaunching as AMI.  Following an extensive review of options, AMI determined to sell its shares in the three journals, and to focus its efforts on its wholly owned journals, Sustainable Microbiology, Journal of Applied Microbiology and Letters in Applied Microbiology, which are now published with Oxford University Press.

Bertoli Mitchell served as the exclusive financial adviser to AMI, working closely with our clients through to completion of the transaction effective January 2024.
