Quiller Publishing acquired by Amberley Publishing

(July 2021)

Bertoli Mitchell is delighted to announce that it advised Andrew and Gilly Johnston in the sale of Quiller Publishing to Amberley for a consideration of £1.4 million.

Founded in 2001 by the Johnstons, Quiller specialises in outdoor titles and, in 2005, acquired the equestrian publisher Kenilworth Press. The company is a fine example of focussed publishing for niche markets. Quiller and its imprints are expected to remain independent within Amberley.

Amberley CEO Nick Hayward said: “This is a very exciting moment in the life of Amberley and reflects the amazingly hard work that our wonderful team has put in over recent years. We are look forward to working with the great business that Andrew and Gilly have created together.”

Andrew Johnston said: “I am delighted that Quiller has been acquired by a dynamic independent publisher and after 20 years developing Quiller, and over 40 years in the book trade since joining Foyles in 1973, it is time to step back from what has been a wonderfully happy career.”

He added: “Gilly and I are extremely grateful to Natalina as we literally could not have achieved the sale of Quiller in as straightforward a manner as possible without her invaluable help, advice and support.”

The trade press announcement is here.

This is Bertoli Mitchell’s third transaction this year, closely following the sale of Illuminate Publishing to Hachette UK, in which Bertoli Mitchell acted as the exclusive financial and M&A adviser to the selling shareholders.
